Everyone who makes a comic gets to vote - so here are my choices. There are a few categories I’m not nominating in (some ‘cos I don’t read enough relevant comics to make a good judgement, and for the Best New Comic I’m going to be on the jury sorting out the final winner)
Best Colour Art - The jaw dropping landscapes and action sequences of Freakangels get my vote
Best Black and White Art - Fantastic universe creation, got to be Galaxion
Best Non-Traditional Art. - The delightful collage of My Cardboard Life for sure. The artwork is not only brilliant, but fits perfectly with the comic’s tone.
Best Lead Character - Shelly Winters of Scary-Go-Round/Bad Machinery - wonderfully wordy with and charismatically captivating.
Best Gag-a-day comic - I love Daisy Owl. I’m not entirely sure why, but it tickles me funny bone more than anything else on the web at the mo’.
Best Writing - I have been absolutely mesmerised by the world of Gunnerkrigg Court ever since I first found it.
Best Longform comic and Best Comic - It’s got to be the afformentioned Freakangels. Intense and wonderful yet at the same time dark and disturbing. Ellis and Duffield are redefining webcomics as we know it with this amazing creation.
Agree? Disagree? Let me know.
If you’re a webcomic creator, and you’re reading this on Sunday 13th, you’ve still got a few hours left to get some nominations in. (P.S. Don’t nominate me, as a committee member I’m not eligible and there are a lot of better comics out there)
In other news: advance warning that, like last year, the comic will take about a week’s Christmas vaction - missing Mon 28th. and Wed 30th. New comics will resume Jan 1st 2010!
Peace,
L
All your nominations would certainly be worthy winners of their respective categories. You didn’t nominate anyone in the category Best New Comic. A deliberate decision of yours?
Should have read the small print - you are judging BNC….Don’t Mondays just suck…?!
I found Gunnerkrigg Court from a person on the xkcd fora and have loved it since. It’s nice to know someone else appreciates it.
