The Ad Hominem fallacy is a direct attack at the character/intellect of the other member of a debate which would undermine their statements amongst the whole.
“You’re an ad hominem fallacy” is a direct attack, but it mostly just undermines the speaker’s intellect. So yeah, it’s kinda pointless. BUT HEY, he thinks he understands logical fallacies, so let him have it.
Definitely the 14th material fallacy (to be included in De sophisiticis elenchis Aristotulum. BTW, somebody got his mobile number?)…
Is it bad that I don’t quite get the joke?

MrGBH, it’s actually better you don’t get it. It’ll just depress you and destroy your hope in mankind. It’s that lame.
Only if you know what an ad hominem is, and still don’t get it.
The title text is clearly an ad matrem fallacy.
luke this is completely incomprehensible
@ Mr GBH and Clem: um… ad hominem means attacking the person (instead of their argument). So… that’s the joke.
I know… don’t explain the joke. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Ptitle0t9r68ih?from=Main.DontExplainTheJoke
Now I get it……. And I did indeed laugh this time.
AJ, evil man, now I will be wasting another 14 hours on TVTropes… Oooh, lampshade hanging, I wonder what that is!
wouldn’t it make more sense if it was tu quoque instead of ad hominem?
If some snotty punk leaning against a wall with his arms folded said that to me I’d just punch him in the face and ask him what fallacy that was.
