I live in Edgmond which currently holds the record in England for the coldest weather ever recorded. It often gets noted as Newport, Shropshire, but I’m pretty sure it was in Edgmond (at Harper Adams’, no less) where it was recorded. The small, insignificant things that keep us going…
They made an entire BBC series about my village. It’s called “The Story of England” and I’m not in it, but it’s still pretty awesome. We can last for years on that pride.
As far as I’m aware, my hometown has never appeared in any major media. The tiny town I life in currently isn’t famous either, but it did have a famous founder. Thomas Bata, the man who created the 99p.
Ceemoy: You live in Kibworth? Cool. I enjoyed that program. Very interesting. Some of my tutors were in it (I’m a student at Leicester Uni). There was an email sent out to all of us archaeology students inviting us to take part, but I couldn’t physically get there, not owning a car, so missed out.
Must admit to being slightly excited about Shrewsbury being mentioned here, though was way more excited when Bridgnorth, where I lived from the age of 5 to 19, got a mention in HIGNFY a few weeks back because someone from there grew a massive cabbage or something. Not someone I know, however.
My town, Thrapston, was the first place in Northamptonshire, and the second place in the UK, to have police use a Taser. we only have a population of about 5000, I was so proud..
Wow, I have been to Shrewsbury!
This is so freaking true. My town was on America’s Most Wanted.
A similar effect is when you find a mention of the small town you were born in in a webcomic. WOO!
This is just like real-life in that there is about to be a spillage.

Sad part is I get excited when my hometown shows up on the national weather map…

Please elaborate. He created the what now?
You know how a price is never £1:00 or £2:00 but 99p or £1:99? He invented that.
Did he also invent Bata shoes?

I’m offering science fiction authors a reward if they nuke my hometown. If they do it well enough it forms an active volcano I shall offer them cake.
My hometown is cool. nuff said
What is insane is the fact that I was born in Shrewsbury, MA, in the States, also a frakking tiny town
